AED Additional Facts:
AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) cont.
CardioCare
95% of SCA victims die without AED 1st 3-5 min!!!

AED takes precedence over CPR with cardiac arrest but not in place of CPR.  You
utilize both together

There are adult and child paddles, if you don’t have the pediatric paddles for a child
use the adult pads on anyone over 1, with infants there is not enough data to
recommend using adult pads

Clear dry chest. No liquid (blood, sweat, water, vomit), metal (move jewelry), hair
(shave/duct tape), medical patches (some conduct electricity ex. Nitroglycerin-
remove with gloved hand)

Implanted devices (pace makers, ports) are okay just put pads 1” away from them
and make sure pads are at least 1” away from each other so on a smaller victim you
may need to wrap pad around back

Leave AED on and pads on body at all times even if not needed, it will keep
analyzing for you and some have SMART technology that record all activity

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA):

Electrocution:
