Bone, Joint, and Muscle Injuries

Closed fracture, strain, sprain, dislocation -
Open fracture -
Assumed with major trauma like auto accidents, diving, or
lightening strike/force of any kind
Place hands above & below break to
immobilize (make padded splint & sling
with towel or shirt up against chest)
Ice pack 20min. on/off
Remove jewelry
Apply gentle pressure around exposed bone
Call 911
Tingling, numbness or loss of sensation in
hands/fingers/feet/toes
Call 911
ABC’s, HAINES or flat on back position
Place hands on both sides of head
Keep head, neck and spine in line or as found
DO NOT:  remove helmet, ask victim to
move or test for pain response
Seizures/convulsions can result from head
injury or a number of other reasons, do not
restrain
***DO NOT:
Spinal injury -
Attempt to straighten deformity or push
bone back under skin
Allow victim to bear weight on injury
Remove shoes or helmet from injury
*Broken teeth watch out for lots of blood from mouth and just handle by the chewing
surface (crown) not root, preserve in milk/Gatoraide-type drink/or contact saline solution
for up to 30 min., get to endodontist/dentist for reattachment if possible
