Illness/Injury:
Heat Exhaustion - conscious, heavy sweating, red
-cool with fan/water/cold compresses near arteries, give
sports drinks
Heat Stroke - unconscious, red/dry heat
-call 911, water/ice pack all over body in major artery
areas, place in recovery position
Frostbite - cold, hard, numb
-never warm if there is a chance to get cold again and
then have to rewarm
Hypothermia - shivering, weakness, altered mental status
-remove wet clothing, place near heat source, do not rub
Bleeding, Shock, &
Soft Tissue Injuries:
Severe External Bleeding - direct pressure, pressure
bandage, observe universal precautions, never remove
bandage only add to
Shock - pale or bluish tissue color (check lips), shivering,
intense thirst, nausea, low body temp.
-keep airway open, cover up to maintain body temp., lay
them flat on back, nothing to eat/drink
Burns:
Major (3rd degree)
-911
Minor (1st & 2nd degree) - redness, pain, swelling, blisters
-cool with cold water not ice 20-30 min., do not pop
blisters or apply any ointments

Shirt/armpit drag - never move a victim unless you have to
Action Steps (ABC's of CPR) - know what to do for a
responsive & unresponsive victim
Recovery Postion - HAINES
Closed fracture - sharp pain, swelling, deformity, joint
locked into place
-remove jewlery, do not remove shoes unless severe
bleeding, manually stabalize above & below the break
until you can splint/sling, ice indirectly 20 min. on/off
Spinal injuries - numbness, tingling, burning or loss of
sensation in the hands/fingers/feet/toes
-manually stabalize victim's head on each side, do not ask
victim for any pain response, do not move victim unless
it's life threatening, do not remove helmet/shoes, HAINES
Bone, Joint & Muscle
Injuries:
Sudden Illness:
Asthma - after giving medication if they are not
recovering in 15 min. call 911
Anaphylaxis - administer Epi Pen even if unconscious
then call 911
